PSA: Read the main pages!

I sometimes see people ask questions on premises contradicted by the Knowledge Base and Recommendations pages, or suggest something that those pages say not to do, suggesting that they haven’t read them or have forgotten. If you haven’t thoroughly read all the pages on a subject at some point, I recommend doing so before posting a question or comment about it. If you have read them, but disagree or are confused about something, I would address that. It’s also good to use those pages’ search bar, which is different from the forum search, even if you’ve read it already, in case you’ve forgotten something.

I suggest that staff consider expanding rule 1 in the guidelines to include this.

I also recommend everyone fully read all the included pages at least once (perhaps skipping things they don’t expect to ever use), and take notes if necessary, just to improve your overall understanding of privacy. You may be surprised how much it helps you.

I think its great to remind people to RTFM but I think its silly to expect it. Anything with more then like 4 sentences of required reading and people just glaze over it.

I believe that some users view PG primarily as a forum rather than recommendations. Taken as a whole, the recommendations are difficult to grasp because they constitute more of a philosophical system.

What do you mean by philosophical system?

It’s not possible to implement everything PG recommends all at once. For some people, it’s a matter of equipment; for others, it’s a matter of money.

I wasn’t suggesting a person do all the things recommended before participating in the forum, just read what the pages say about something before asking or commenting about it.
