If you’re rocking an Apple TV, surely you can pay for a VPN subscription 
Not really, imagine how much load that would put on the free servers.

Given the main use case for Apple TV is geo-unblocking, it shouldn’t be surprising that free plans don’t have access. You’d have a zero or near-zero rate of successfully bypassing geo-blocks, and it would be a miserable user experience.
