Privacy on Streaming Boxes and "Smart TVs"

Has anyone tried turning a smart tv into a dumb tv? This video shows someone unplugging the wireless card from the back of their Vizio Smart TV. Anyone have experience doing anything similar? How did it work out?

On the r/privacy subreddit, there is a lot of chatter regarding smart TVs: Reddit

I had thought, that if one has one of these smart TVs (LG is a prime example, but there are many others), the wise thing is to not connect to internet. And if you NEVER connect it to the internet and use some other solution, like a custom made TV-box or Apple TV, then the TV itself couldn’t harvest your data.

The comments on that thread though, are alluding that this isn’t the case. But there aren’t specifics, so I am not clear. GamersNexus also saying (but will release details in a future video) that LG TVs can spy on you without being connected to internet.

How???

Also, what do I do if I have a smart TV? Just shred it? Or what?

Not sure how that would be the case.

The only way I would think of is they harvest the data until you connect to the internet. This could be problematic if you resale the Smart TV at some point, but if there are no internet connections, I don’t see how either.
