Google gave more money that I paid for my pixel6a with this program and I got to keep my phone.

Another thing, if you select compensation through cash payment, the third party banking provider will probably ask for your SSN or other national ID

They did not ask that for me in Canada (SSN or other national ID).

But they had my banking info.
In my case this phone was not my dailydriver, but a phone I bought for a close family member.
