Photo management tool on Android

Recently I decided to organize my photos on my android mobile phone just to find out that it is not possible to create an album on the default photo app without uploading it to Google.

Can you recommend any android photo apps which allow to organize your photos locally and which do not sell data to others?

Fossify has a whole host of open-source apps.

Please have a look at the website before opening a thread:

If you want to do it locally just use the default google gallery app and disable the internet permission. I would really advice against using these apps they have proven to be rather unstable.

I know this part about photo management from the website & it seemed to me that the provided solutions were about cloud storage specifically. I’m interested in local management of my photos. Ente seems a great tool but it doesn’t look like a greate app to manage your photos on your mobile…

What is wrong with fossify?

How do you do that? I can’t see such a permission… No backup yes, but no internet? Can’t find that in the app’s settings nor on android settings… (sorry I’m rather a security/privacy/tech noob…)

I can vouch for fossify that they are quite usefull. I have disabled the internet permission though, but I do that by default for all apps that do not require it to function it properly.

Why is Fossify asking for internet permission if it doesn’t use it?

I do not think it is, its just the internet permission toggle on GOS that i use to switch it up for all apps.

It doesn’t require internet permission, you shouldn’t be able to grant it or revoke it, I just checked.

Hmm, you are right, I was pretty sure I had said that a while ago, maybe a recent change?

Just checked their GitHub and can’t find any recent change related to network.

Well you probably then dont use GrapheneOS yet. In that case you probably can’t.

Fossify had quite a bumby ride. It is a fork of a oneman show that was called Simple Mobile Tools, whom was sold off, the license didnt seem to stop them doing that see Simple Mobile Tools to be bought by ZipoApps

You should check the issues on github for their various apps to see how massively unstable these apps are. I used to use the apps based on other recommendations and the often caused issues in losing calendar appointments and contacts, as well as inaccuratly displaying data. I have given up on the project as it seems to be build in a way that does not deem work reliably.

Generally spreaking. You need backups, but especially when you keep everything offline. Make sure to test that the backup file actually contains all the data… (Yes they had issues with this too)

Ah ok, no I don’t. I read somewhere that you should have a pixel if you want to run Graphene, or does it work on Fairphone, too? Sorry this is going off topic…

For backups I personally use Protondrive. The gallery app works fine for my use case atleast, which is being simply a foto and video viewer, with the possbility of making simple edit to fotos like cropping.

Thanks for that extended explanation!

FYI GrapheneOS has fixed cropping on the default gallery, it was broken for a long time. Not it’s more than enough for me.

If backup from the file system direcly for photos that seems fine I guess. I have more seen them fucking up people their contacts and calendars with the apps. Just making the warning beforehand.
