Mullvad port forwarding torrent - workaround

Just discovered Mullvad doesn’t support port forwarding and this is ( I am told) preventing me from reseding torrents after download. I want to be a good peer. I know that Proton allows port forwarding (and mentioned in PG here), but Mullvad is a good service I would like to continue using if there is a privacy preserving workaround.

There is none. If they don’t provide it, then you can’t have it - last I checked. Proton is the only one you can use among the ones recommended for Torrenting.

Why does one need port forwarding for seeding, rather than just having the VPN enabled on the machine while seeding?

You get better and faster downloads with portforwarding enabled. And you can only seed after having downloaded - no?

Without port forwarding, your torrent client can only make outgoing connections to other peers, but cannot accept incoming connections.

Port forwarding allows for direct connections between peers, which can significantly improve both download and upload speeds, especially on less popular torrents (ie those with few seeders).

I think a seedbox or a debrid service that offers seeding would be the only options. I do not think either one of those is particularly private though…

The underlying reason is that P2P connections are possible only if either of the peers have an open port.

If everybody in the swarm is connectable (port open), then you having your port forwarded has no effect on speeds - it isn’t just about downloads either and is equally required for uploading (seeding).

But since not everybody is connectable, you would perceive forwarded ports as better and faster downloads (and uploads) since you’re then able to connect to people without port forwarding.
