Mullvad Browser worth it?

I’ve been using it since it came out. It breaks things here and there and triggers CAPTCHA and Cloudflare blocks on many websites. It’s not unusable, but it does waste time. So, I mainly use it for signing up or logging into throwaway accounts that I won’t bother using on a separate VM, since I can get a ‘clean’ browser on the go. Otherwise, I use it to view specific webpages that Tor doesn’t work with.

Do you actually use Mullvad Browser for general browsing (to search and browse websites), and how’s your experience with it?

I personally find it too much of an annoyance for everyday usage, so I rarely use it.

I use Mullvad as my main browser(both with and without Mullvad VPN) . Sure, it does break some sites but I like the antifingerprinting + adblock features of Mullvad browser. For compatibility I use Firefox and ungoogled-chromium.

All of that should not happen all that much.

If you want, change your DNS setting within the browser and have it use your VPNs or a non Mullvad DNS resolver.

Mullvad is definitely hardened and is not ideal for everyday use but even then it’s not terrible to use for the most part.

I use it for going to random places on the web on its “medium” setting. Its fine enough as my daily browsing. For logged in accounts, I just use Brave.

I don’t really mind the captcha. Its a small price to pay for a private and less ad infested internet.

I tend to daily drive firefox as I do have a few other extensions I like to use but outside of my main personal computer (ie work, travel etc) its my browser of choice.

Absolutely worth it.

Its not my main browser, thats Firefox, (considering a switch to LibreWolf) BUT Mullvad Browser is my default browser.

I don’t like that an application can open links in the web & have saved data on me between sessions, so I specially want my OS’s default browser to be one that opens links in private browsing modes or a browser that deletes all data between sessions.

Mullvad browser is a fantastic tool, by setting it as your OS’s default browser, even if you never actually use it during your daily activity, you’ll have that extra protection ensuring your browser doesn’t accidentally expose information to applications that open links in the web. (cough: discord checking for web accounts)

Where is such a setting? Did you mean on uBlock Origin?

You might like something like this. It prevents accidental clicks and allows you to review or edit the link before opening it. You can also choose the browser you want to use.

It’s under privacy settings in the browser at the bottom of the page I think.

And no, I didn’t mean uBO.

Thanks for your comment and sorry, I quoted the wrong comment!..

It’s not a real setting called medium for you to turn on.

Look at their GitHub docs to learn what the medium settings mean.

Yes I use Mullvad as my main browser, even for government sites, banking and stock trading platforms.

TinFoilHat: How do you use it for banking and government sites?

Yes, I use it and Mullvad VPN as my main browser. (default with no modifications)

When sites (like USPS, Banks, etc.) do not work, I close the browser, close Mullvad VPN and startup Proton VPN before reopening either Firefox or Brave, then log into the blocked site.

Yes it is inconvenient and I wish it wasn’t but I am assuming the protections of regular surfing is justified. (re: Mullvad Browser and Mullvad VPN).

Has LibreWolf improved in the last few months?

Just fire up the browser and login, with my always on VPN as well

For any sites thats incompatible with Mullvad (like wont load or broken site) , I will try cromite and thrn stock firefox if still fails.

I dont really think it is inconvenient, i use Firefox since 1.x and there is always some sites not blending with FF(back in the days was IE, nowadays is Chomium) , I got used to it already.

I do miss the mozilla sync feature though.

Thanks.

I use Mullvad Browser (with Mullvad VPN) as my default browser, mainly for general browsing, and Brave Browser (without Mullvad VPN) with separate profiles for logins. If I encounter the occasional broken website on Mullvad, I open it in Brave. My only issue with Mullvad is the default light mode - it’s a pain to look at even on low brightness - and I think the Dark Reader extension is not recommended?
