If literally shoving into people’s throat were legal, MSFT would be the first with their crap. Good lord, the desperation to make AI a a valuable thing cause the industry has nothing else to do and burn money on is palpable.
I know very little about AI, but would force installing Copilot more places be Microsoft’s move to increase their available training data?
Yes. But that’s putting it very very mildly.
They are a very greedy, unethical, and immoral corporation that will take anything that it can take from its users including all their data even by force, which this is an attempt at the same.
If you’re using Windows, it is highly recommended to disable all their telemetry, and their crappy AI first apps to safeguard your own data. If you’re new and/or don’t know, let me know and I’ll try to help. Others can also help. There’s also a lot of info on this forum about it so please read up if you’re interested.
That said, it is ideally best to let go of Windows and move to something better - Linux desktop is an obvious first choice but if that’s too much or overwhelming, even macOS is better.
I agree 100%, and I apologize if my question appeared too polite.
I fired Microsoft ten years ago, and I am very happy with Linux. Regardless, thank you for the offer.
Yes, it is my belief that Microsoft is inserting Copilot exfiltration (theft by spyware) vectors in all of their products whether Microsoft victims pay for them or not, or whether victims want them or not.
When was the last time Microsoft ever improved their products or made their customers’ lives better?
Windows 7 during a much simpler time.
Windows XP SP2.
That’s Microsoft for ya!
Pushing out everything that we don’t need.
Don’t think so. Each version of Windows had some improvements, but some drawbacks as well. For example, Windows 7 got rid of Clippy.
You are right that Windows XP SP2 marked Microsoft’s realization that security was important.
Admittedly, I miss the days of Windows NT 4.0 Workstation combined with Novell NetWare and ZENworks.
Ugh. Can’t believe I will be installing this crap again.
I would need like a month off work to just learn everything at once and switch to Linux.
@KevPham I’m assuming this can be turned off with the group policy settings?
Also, is it relevant in the installation media what language do you pick? I presume it’s just during the installation that you have to pick an EEA country, but just want to make sure.
Another day that ends in Y, another day I am thankful for Linux.
