LTT: De-Google Video Got Taken Down

I wouldn’t be surprised if google had banned LTT channel itself after that video

YouTube wouldn’t remove a channel as big as LTT.

I think you are right it could start a storm down to the bottom if he manges to pull a few other creators away with him. To be honest that would be a good thing to happen.

I just don’t know where they could possibly go. The YT alternatives are either as problematic and/or difficult to use for the average user and/or technical behind. YT is kinda of a monopoly.

Edit: And the alternatives aren’t probably financial rewarding enough to attract content creators.

Is Odysee problematic or difficult to use? It feels fine to me, just like YT.

Many of the commenters and larger creators there tend to spread misinformation, conspiracy theories, or harmful rhetoric. I know creators like Techlore turned off comments because of how bad they got, TheLinuxExperiment stopped posting there, and I know a couple others that have tried to get their content off the platform because they don’t want to be associated with the user base

Yeah but that’s not because the platform itself is bad but just because this kind of content and commentariat has long been purged from Youtube. If more “advertising-friendly” content creators would cross-post to Odysee or Bitchute or Peertube then it would make these places more friendly.

I could say the same thing about platforms like 4chan, yet rarely do I see people say that. Platforms that attract the people I describe tend to drive away people who rather not be harassed or deal with problematic individuals. I love PeerTube, a really great idea that I wish would catch on just like the rest of the Fediverse. Just doesn’t make sense financially for larger creators, so its stuck mostly to hobbyist and people who have the technical know-how to either look for an instance or host an instance.

I suspect the video was taken down because Newpipe was mentioned. Same thing happened to TheHatedOne’s Newpipe video.
Unfortunately, Youtube doesn’t feel they need to explain why a video is not allowed.

NewPipe, Grayjay, etc. They put a lot of 3rd party front ends in that video

I stand corrected.

Odysee uses Google analytics, so in terms of privacy it’s probably just as bad as YouTube.

What’s the source ?

We have implemented the following:

  • Remarketing with Google AdSense
  • Google Display Network Impression Reporting
  • Demographics and Interests Reporting

We, along with third-party vendors such as Google use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookies) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) or other third-party identifiers together to compile data regarding user interactions with ad impressions and other ad service functions as they relate to our website.

Odysee announced they were removing ads, so I wonder how this impacts this.

I’m also wondering if using NoScript and UBlock while watching videos on Odysee keeps Google Analytics from following your viewing activities? I’m careful to always block the Google Scripts with the NoScript Extension.

If you block all google domains with Noscript then yes, they can’t track you, but if you don’t hide your IP Address, they still will know, that you connected to them.
Unless you fully block the domain in Ublogorigin with advanced mode. There you can decide each domain to block or to allow and also block JavaScript.
Noscript, at least to my knowledge only brocks Javascripts from this domain, but not the connection to the domain itself.

Here a great video about u blog origin advanced mode. It’s still up to date. Nothing has changed.
