Looking for advice - Replacing Google Wifi Mesh

I am reviving my old dead post as I never followed through and, seemingly every year around this time I once again consider replacing Google Wifi with something better and hopefully a bit more FOSS.

I am also hoping to get advice from the knowledable users of PG.

First some extra relevant info, not included in my OP…

I would need to cover around 2000 sqft which includes a basement, main floor, and 2nd floor. Currently my internet package allows for 1gbps wired.

Right now I use 4x Google Wifi AC1200 - 1x hard wired as the router (2nd floor), 2x hard wired as APs (1x main floor, 1x basement) and 1x AP wireless (2nd floor).

My current plan is still to use the NanoPi R4S (4GB version) as the replacement router.

For the APs (my preference would be to only have 2 APs, as I only have the ability to hardwire two of them) for the new setup.

I originally planned to use the ZyXEL WSM20 with OpenWrt loaded but for the life of me I can’t find these for sale outside of overpriced ebay options.

I have now shifted to either using the ZyXEL NWA50AX Pro or the OpenWrt One.

EDIT: Went with the ZyXEL NWA50AX Pro. Better hardware and was easier to purchase. Anyone thinking of following my lead, be aware that these APs can be bricked super easily when installing OpenWRT so make sure you have a serial console adapter ready and are comfortable with going through that process if need be.
