looking for a privacy friendly free image hosting service.

Privacy friendly and free? That’s tough. If you’re not paying for the product (and often even if you are) then you’re often the product.

a lot of pomf like services are available if that’s what op is searching for, like https://pomf.lain.la (US) or https://files.uwabaki.party/ (EU) that support up to 1 GB max file size

Double this. It is impossible to know if the website you’re using is selling and logging your data, even if they say they’re not. If they’re hosted in United States or similar countries, they are likely obliged by law to log their users, in case someone puts government unapproved images on their platform.

Its reasonable to use Tor to upload your file to a normal image hoster. https://pixvid.org/ accepts uploads from Tor users.

Ultimately it’s best to host your own, if you really need to - but I think any will do. I didn’t know of this requirement to log visitors / uploads? Could you expand on this?

It varies by country. I am not a legal expert (which is why I stated “may require”), so I will point to a page that describes more. It seems the United Kingdom and Australia are more strict, while the US doesn’t explicitly require keeping logs (but probably tracks connections to your website anyways).

It also varies by situation. If a user continues to use your service for highly illegal activity and you keep refusing to help track him, the government may simply bend to law to its wants.
