LibreTube is fixed šŸŽ‡

For me it still in the unusable state even after updating the app and playing around with the instances.

Iā€™m just going to move on, this app was simple not made for my case and with Clipious, Grayjay and NewPipe/Tubular around I donā€™t see the reason to keep hitting my head against the wall.

Itā€™s working for me but only if I disable the proxy. But now it shows the latest videos from my subscriptions were from 4 days ago even though thereā€™s some from today. Iā€™ve been having good luck with Tubular and Clipious so Iā€™ll stick with those.

Iā€™m marking this thread as rejected because according to the original post, the reason for removing LibreTube was that it was ā€œunmaintained,ā€ that is,

which is no longer the case. And it is no longer ā€œunusable,ā€ as reported by at least one community member here and others in the GitHub issue opened by Bnyro.

I do think that there can be a note added to the top of the YouTube section of the frontends page, which says something to the effect of what @Cyber-Typhoon proposed:

alongside a brief sentence capturing the changes YouTube has made recently and its effect on third-party frontends.

Adding Clipious and/or Grayjay to this page would be helpful in giving readers more options.

Okay, so I just found something.

The latest version of LibreTube on F-Droid is 0.24.0 and the latest version on GitHub is 0.25.1.

F-Droid is behind on weeks, so for people who use LibreTube, please install it from GitHub.

Even with version 0.25.1 the problem is with the instances. I canā€™t find a single one that doesnā€™t lag behind several hours or even days.
Videos are published but donā€™t appear in Libretube subscriptions, everything works as expected in Newpipe.

Anyone has found a reliable instance to share?

Go to Settings ā†’ Instance and enable Disable Piped proxy as well as Local streams extraction.

@Encounter5729 I wouldnā€™t say that itā€™s fixed. If your IP is blacklisted, then it will not work like all the other frontends that connect to YouTube directly.

If you enable the options above, you will be connecting directly to YouTube and not Piped.

I had it set already, it doesnā€™t help unfortunately

If NewPipe works for you, then LibreTube should also work with the configuration above.

I just tested with a Proton VPN server and it worked fine.

Did you test LibreTube on the same server?

I tested LibreTube and it played video fine.

Iā€™m connected through Proton VPN and NewPipe works while LibreTube gives the error ā€œsign in to confirm youā€™re not a botā€. Maybe I should try connecting to different Proton VPN servers?

I am on Proton free plan. Make sure to enable instructions from LibreTube github, and download the latest version from their website or github.

I think the extraction works only for decoding videos not for retrieving subscriptions. If I change instance I get different results in my subscriptions feed but not a single one I tried was able to provide correctly updated video subs without lagging behind.
Am I the only one experiencing that?

Itā€™s a known issue:

You still use instances ?

I switched back to Newpipe for the time being, having Libretube with broken feed is useless. I mean if you watch some random sporadic video itā€™s ok otherwise itā€™s unusable.
Also instance jumping is frequently required and itā€™s quite tiring.

Unfortunately Newpipe doesnā€™t have automatic fullscreen for short videos which is annoying but nothing major.
I still hope it will be fixed but it seems unlikely.

@user1 You shouldnā€™t use a Libertube with Instances.
Instances are completely broken. Just do everything locally.

That being said, I mainly use Grayjay, so not sure of the actual reliability of LibreTubeā€™s local extraction.

As I mentioned in a previous post the problem is not the local video extraction, which I use, itā€™s the feed retrieving that is broken and that is an instance inherent related problem.

As @redoomed1 pointed out itā€™s a known issue and the developer said a fix itā€™s not planned.
