Short description
This app is similar to LibreTube, but instead of using Piped, it uses Invidious.
Why I think this tool should be added
YouTube has started a war against freeloading. That’s why we need more frontend options.
Clipious uses Invidious, and LibreTube uses Piped. Piped currently still hasn’t found a way to fix the issues caused by YouTube, but Invidious managed to do it.
I knew someone would bring up Clipious sooner or later
Notably, Clipious is also available through Accrescent, which makes it easy for GrapheneOS users to install the app (since Accrescent is mirrored in the GrapheneOS App Store).
I wanted to bring it up for quite some time, but would always forget it after getting lost in a discussion or an argument with someone on the forum, lol.
I installed Clipious and Grayjay about 2 hours ago. So far both are working flawless for me. I think they may ended up replacing Tubular(NewPipe) and Libretube. Quite funny because both are not in the recommendations. It is first impressions so a bit early to jump into conclusions but very positive so far.
It’s worth noting that Clipious, unlike NewPipe/Tubular and LibreTube, does not support local playlists. Right now, you can only add videos to a playlist after you log in to an Invidious account.
So far so good with Clipious! My only gripe is the video quality as all the videos I watch are in 360p. When selecting video quality that is the only option. Is there a way to get 1080?
… and Grayjay. Just want to add here in case someone is looking for that feature. Many will be well served using Clipious and Grayjay instead of New Pipe/Tubular and LibreTube, like I was doing.
I’ll keep testing it next weeks but very impressed with those two tools.
Really enjoying clipious so far. Only thing that’s not working for me is downloads. Have you guys tried? Curious to know if that’s a problem on my side (using Seal app to download for the time being, so not a major issue)
To add.
Clipious uses Invidious as it’s backend.
You can self host Invidious, stick that behind a VPN and you’ve got a fairly private setup.
Also, iirc it doesn’t use JS, and it’s limited to 720p, but otherwise is a great project like Piped.
