Why I think this tool should be added

I opened this thread to compile existing discussion about LibreTranslate into a focused thread since previous discussion occurred in Translation software/services, which contains discussion about multiple translation tools.

I also opened this thread to invite any new discussion from those who didn’t take a look at the aforementioned thread.

For other use cases, LibreTranslate could be a good candidate. It supports self-host and offline translation.

The problem is, LibreTranslate just isn’t actually a very accurate translator. It may work then, to get the overall idea of a message you find on the internet. But for anything even half-important, you cannot trust it.

I have seen it on some pages as a suggestion as an open source alternative to Google translation and co.

As noted in that PR, we use a LibreTranslate API for the new translations on this forum (to give users familiar an idea of quality), but for general use there is a web interface that works like you’d expect.
