Is NordVPN reliable?

Hello, I’ve read comments saying that the VPN recommendations are almost always “Mullvad, Proton, IVPN.” My question is why NordVPN isn’t recommended and whether you think it’s worth switching from NordVPN to one of those three. Are NordVPN’s services secure? NordLocker, NordPass…
Best regards

Nord just doesn’t have the best reputation and their clients are proprietary.

Where do you think Nord spends more on?

Its infrastructures and network engineers or its marketing department?

Not an expert here. My understanding is that NordVPN is not as transparents about their practices as the other VPN providers you mentioned. They are not open sourced. We don’t exactly know who is behind them, and their parent company owns multiple VPNs, including SurfShark, which is not great.

Also, a big factor is data breaches. If I am not mistaken, a couple of years back NordVPN had some sort of data breach or leak. If these types of incidents are extremely rare for a company, they can be forgivable for some users. But the main issue was how Nord handled the controversy. They didn’t tell their users about it when it happened, but only months later when it was reported in the news. To me, that is unacceptable.

I’ve tried NordVPN, and performance wise, they’re pretty good. I can also understand why some people might opt for them over Proton VPN, because they are considerably cheaper.

However, another issue I have with them is that they are not as serious about privacy as Proton and Mullvad. Mullvad is clearly committed to privacy, it’s one of their core values, and they go out of their way to promote that. They also are committed to public advocacy, which Nord never does. Nord is just a business.

That’s my 2 cents. If you use Nord and want to switch. I suggest you wait for your subscription to end before you switch, unless money is not a issue for you.

Windscribe’s relationship chart can be informative when it comes to understanding some of the issues with Nord and others.

As far as speed and blending in (nord has most active users) it’s a good option.

At least Linux client should be open source? https://nordvpn.com/blog/nordvpn-linux-open-source/#what-will-be-open-source

I would not use NordVPN due to all the fake review sites promoting them.

NordVPN has gotten hacked before,. They openly coordinate with law enforcement.
