Google has updated their Chrome web store policy on affiliate ads and cookies after a scandal involving the popular Honey extension. Now, browser extensions cannot include cookies, coupon codes, or affiliate links without the following criteria:
In short, affiliate links, coupon codes, and cookies can now only be included in the extension if they provide a direct and clear benefit to users when they shop. For example, extensions can’t insert links unless they lead to real discounts or cash back on purchases. Extensions also can’t update your shopping cookies or inject affiliate links on web pages without explicitly notifying you.
Regardless, please don’t install random browser extensions on something like Brave. The vast majority of them would actually harm your privacy even if the Chrome web store implemented one good change.
