Fake ublock extension on chromewebstore , users beware

A reminder that whoever is doing fresh installs of Brave and chrome that from now on, manifest v2 extensions are disabled by default. Brave has made an additional setting for enabling it in the new installs. So by default “Ublock origin” extension does not appear on the chrome webstore.

Instead a fake one "ublock’ extension appears on top and looks very legit.

Below is a screenshot of FAKE extension appearing on top on the chrome web store since the original v2 extension was removed. It has the blue checkmark a featured Tag.

If you scroll down in the webstore you will see a “ublock origin Lite” extension which probably should be the legit one , but i am also not too sure how to verify authenticity at this point.
For existing users who already have the extension installed on brave can continue to use it without problems. Brave automatically turns on support for it.

It’s not specific to Brave/chrome or even this time and day.

Always check the author/creator.
For ublock, it should be “Raymond Hill (gorhill)”

" Brave Browser includes a built-in content blocker and privacy features, many of which are enabled by default."
why would you download ublockorigin to brave?

That’s not fake that’s the original uBlock from before uBlock Origin split off.

It allows for more granular control through its blocking modes, which introduce a whitelist-centric approach in addition to the default blocklist experience.

I am not sure if its Fake or not but the reviews defintely suggest that way. Also even if it was a split off , it does not appear to have any interface for accessing its settings , nor it seems to block anything. So its better to just keep away from it

Tbf ublock.org now has a warning that it is unrelated to ublockOrigin
