TLDR: Linux and now GrapheneOS and self hosting.
man I thought Linux is one thing but this
This is GOAT, mark my word.
PewDiePie really do be in the privacy conscious techy arc, god damn.
Finished watching, as a fella in the community like PG like Techlore should.
All I can say is, can anyone tell pewdiepie about Peertube? And then he’s complete.
oh and also FUTO Keyboard
I managed to watch half of the video because I couldn’t stand the cringe, but anyhow.
If you want privacy, you can use Google Chrome, but you need to install Group Policies and adjust them. Brave is good but it has a lot of bloatware, which can be also disabled by group policies! Firefox, default search engine is Google, and a lot of options are hidden in group policies (shocking x2) and about:config.
I won’t use a Pixel phone because its hardware and camera sucks donkey balls. Imagine paying 1k for a phone and you get picture quality of a calculator. If GrapheneOS could be installed on Samsung Sxx Ultra series, I would definitely buy and install it, but nope. I am stuck with my iPhone xx Pro Max.
Search engines. DDG is not bad, Brave is not bad, but Google still shows better results. Use adblockers then? Block Google ad domains? Problem solved.
Vaultwarden is good, but you need to maintain it yourself. Also you need BW premium sub if I remember correct. I am with 1Password Family at this one. Sorry but no other password managers can match it.
For note taking, there is nothing beats Onenote. I searched for a long time, but there is nothing.
For media files, sorry but I am happy with Google Photos. I want my photos and videos to be backed up automatically (looking at you Proton and Ente!) That is the point of it.
For AI, I am pretty sure he has no idea.
Doesn’t proton drive automatically backup photos on mobile? I’m pretty sure I just deleted photos from it I didn’t want there
The titan chip is supposedly best for security I thought? Also the camera is subjective as many people I know prefer that over Scamsung.
Edit: I meant Samsung
not by default, but it is opt in opt out
If you keep your Proton Drive app active, yes, it can backup. There is no background upload, at least for iOS. You reset your Proton Drive app? Upload everything again. You logged out and logged in? Upload everything all over again. You updated the app? Tough luck, upload everything again.
It is also not importing your albums, it just uploads the photos and videos, without adding any location, person and most importantly album info.
18 posts were split to a new topic: Pixel hardware quality
I am just a bit hesitant on his recommendations on self hosting. It is not bad but too difficult for many. Would have preferred to see him trying proton, although generally happy he spreads more awareness on this. Positive development.
My wife agreed with you but I think we have moved off topic.
We should use this area for discussion directly related to the video.
Whether you like him (I don’t) or not this is a huge boon for the community. I am hoping this continues to bring interest to more people
Yes, there are many videos about the comparison about the photography but we should keep to the original topic.
For myself, I really wish that I could have the hardware of Samsung Ultra series and Graphene OS. Jailbreak on iOS devices is not doable for some time, so Graphene OS is only choice for privacy.
As my recommendations, don’t get me wrong, I hate Google and their vicious data harvesting methods, but I am trying to say there are methods to lower the harvesting
just like the cough before, this is subjective and everyone will have their own opinion, I like his humour and stuff and the way he explains it even though nuances could be better and stuff but he’s the one to carry the big torch like this imo and I;m glad we can all agree on him holding the big torch on GOS, Privacy/Self-hosting etc. [or Degoogle but there are people like Lukas who hates the term so.] (alongside LTT, if it wasn’t for the part 2 takedown tragedy, even if fortunately there are reuploads), but I will avoid humping on anyone who doesn’t like him for his on camera attitude or something as again it is subjective.
This is actually one of the points that I think is important. Samsung has good hardware for this although I believe Knox is software based? We would then rely on just arm trustzone for grapheneos then and could be open for other manufacturers.
here’s what I know and if I understood correctly, Knox is both hardware and software, however unlocking the bootloader on a Samsung breaks Knox and that’s why GrapheneOS can’t support it, since it cannot be utilized outside of Samsung’s OneUI which is a shame. I hope i’m correct based on what I interpreted but yeah.
If wikipedia serves me right based on the cite note 16 too, it is hardware and software:
To be fair I don’t really like streamers at all. But yes you are correct otherwise he wouldn’t be one of the most popular people on the platform.
I am pretty sure the hardware is the Qualcomm chip set arm trustzone and not a secondary chip. Knox was an extra layer on top if i remember correctly.
yes again if Wikipedia is not deceiving me, it is based on the ARM TrustZone
also stated:
Knox Verified Boot monitors and protects the phone during the booting process, along with Knox security built at a hardware level (introduced in Knox 3.3).
If you feel that way, there’s also Startpage, Mullvad Leta, or SearXNG. Also, I’ve heard that Kagi has even better results than Google
I have no intention to pay extra for a search engine, e.g. Kagi, and Startpage is doing fishy business lately. I am using Brave search but it is not as good as Google.
For phones, it is not about the price. I always get the latest highend phones thanks to my contract with my GSM operator. So…
then what about SearXNG, it is basically multi index, can have google, bing, brave and more like that results. Is there anything concerning SearXNG? Public Instances? (even though can self host) or reliability?
here for me: I used to use SearXNG but I gave up on it for the most part because of reliability especially on public instances, starts working say google then breaks. So im more into startpage because of anonymous view but now I’ve started to not utilize it likely due to habit so I may go about maining html duckduckgo or brave search or a mixture of both down the line.
I never tried it to be honest. I don’t like the idea of self hosting, due to costs, due to hw requirements, and availability issues. So far I am using Brave search, and when that fails Google search.
If there is way to combine Google & Bing search, and make and privacy friendly, I am open ears, because I don’t know how. I also want to use the same for my business life. So far Brave is also failing me a lot, and I don’t trust Startpage for a while
