Hopefully the Linux install works better than the video links.,. Yewtube produces a 502 gateway error and Piped wants me to sign in to prove I’m not a bot.
One by one, they will all switch to Linux.
We need couple more “big names” and it will just snowball when it becomes trendy.
Wow that’s big, lots of kids are going to be introduced to Linux now.
Invidious:
Unfortunately, public Invidious and Piped instances have been crippled by Google. See: [Bug] "This helps protect our community." - "Please sign in to confirm you’re not a bot" · Issue #4734 · iv-org/invidious · GitHub
Private instances, as well as frontends that use your private IP address like Newpipe and Freetube, still work.
except Nadeko’s, the clever trick with that instance is that it has multiple backends meaning it’s almost impossible a video to actually be blocked by any of them. (and proxying the video could work in general) [very few if not any you will encounter of such]
Nadeko is really an hero, it even works on TOR !
While Linux Mint was in the top 10 on distrowatch, it is now No. 1 - thanks to this video. Tis a good day!
This is like a masterclass in how to make open source sell.
Calls out that the coddling of systems that ultimately reduce your freedoms to use your system.
“Wait a minute it does exactly what I want it to do!”
Windows: (in condescending baby talk) “Are you shuur you wanna dewete da file?”
Linux: Just puts a gun in your hand and says, “do it”
Like this genuinely was something I thought only a small percentage of enthusiasts would care about but yeah, turns out people don’t like being treated like idiots.
He calls out the “bloat” of Windows in such a concise way without being too preachy about it.
Put a little AI here, you want that right? You want to use Bing right? There’s clearly no benefit to us this us for you, the consumer.
with Linux nothing, serenity, peace.
Then goes into cool shit that I honestly haven’t played with since my college days “ricing”. Build up pixel art and runs little bash scripts like he really encapsulates all the things that drew me to POSIX tooling without jumping into details.
Then the whole bit about adobe and OBS and installations… Just well done!
I’m not usually into watching YouTubers or influencers, but I viewed this one because I was curious as to why it had affected my wife so much. I’d been trying to get her to try Linux for years with no success and after seeing the video, she asked me to teach her how to dual boot using Linux Mint.
Of course, I witnessed it personally, and I have to say, it’s great message from someone with this much influence. It’s pleasant to see something like that break away from the usual Mac vs. PC discussion (even if that’s not necessarily the best way of phrasing it). I was quite impressed at how well he presented things, explaining things I’ve struggled to explain to others while keeping it informative and comical. Hopefully, he’ll give Signal a shout-out in a future video
I feel you.
Bro (or rather Sis?) you don’t trust me, your husband, when I suggest it, but when Felix does it, its cool.
Don’t you sometimes wish the Kardashians use Linux?
Being that significant others often see you poop among along with your flaws, it’s hard to trust someone you know too well versus an internet star whose flaws you don’t see every day with millions of followers.
My SO is a pediatrician and I sometimes finding myself questioning if they have an opinion on things for our kids because, clearly they are biased and we need to go to the ER right now!!
This in my opinion would be an inherent flaw in any person should it be the case. One should be smart and intelligent enough to evaluate people and info for what they are and why - no matter where it comes from.
Not sure what you mean exactly by this comment.
Welp I must be doomed.
Not sure what you didn’t get about that comment.
What I really meant was, if one operates with reasonableness, rationality, and pragmatism - it should not be an issue.
If this were the age of enlightenment maybe, but rhetoric and charisma go a long way to ensure that snakes can sell snake oil. Have you paid any attention to politics recently?
Yes yes… I know.. I was being idealistic there.
hehe…I mean I have been thinking a bunch about how to reorient use of NLP to engage folks in rhetorical analysis so that it makes propaganda and persuasion easier to spot and part of practice.
That would go a long way towards pragmatism and training folks to think critically.
True. Plausibly.
But I still think some of the old school ways of going about it would work better - quality education and secular upbringing with good values that align with todays’ majority’s worldview (seeing that’s where the world is headed and will and eventually continue to head no matter the opposition - progress happens no matter what. Slowly but surely).
