How Do I Activate RCS on Grapheneos?

What permissions do i need to give to google playstore or play services?

It’s quite a long thread but seems like this was the latest “solution” Using RCS with Google Messages on GrapheneOS: Page 16 - GrapheneOS Discussion Forum. I also suggest to use their forum for GOS related questions

Went back to stockos only to find out it doesn’t even work on stock rip . Back to grapheneos I go

here’s a workaround I employed for it:
Install an older version of Messages that supports RCS, In this case:

After setting the default and opening it as always, Go to settings → Find Chat Features → Enable it
Wait for it to connect, when it is ready close the app.
Go to the Google Play Store and update it to the latest version.
I also have done the Play Services thing of granting READ_DEVICE_IDENTIFIERS permission as well.
However regardless of that it doesn’t last long so you’ll need to be repeating this workaround to maintain RCS in my experience…

Interestingly i did the READ_DEVICE_IDENTIFIERS work around with the play services a few months ago, and haven’t experienced any RCS breakage on GOS since. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky. :man_shrugging:

I have it working. First I will say I needed Wifi conection and VPN off for it to complete.
Permissions are
Playservices; Notifocations / Contacts / Network / Sensors / SMS
Play Store: Notifocations / Sensors / Network
Google Messages: Notifificatons / Call Log / Contacts / Network / Sensors / SMS / Phone

On the last maby less will work as well. I havent tried.
On Playservices: I use Google Contacts for sync and the google dialer. Maby I will drop last…
Be advised that your ISP must (!) Support and / or activate RCS Messages. At least in germany with my ISP I can see RCS Chats in the docunentation. Good luck

What is this identifiers business I dont see in permissions this toggle

read the GOS Forum, someone provides the adb command necessary
