Thomas Massie has been the primary proponent for a warrant requirement and helped the privacy block of republicans prevent this bill from being past. Regardless of your politics, this is a huge win and shows that pro-privacy progress can be made politically.

Republicans who voted against the reauth:
Most Democrats are only opposing this because Trump is in power. Two years ago, Fisa was passed with Democrat support. Regardless, we should appreciate these Democrats this time.
Here we can see how every congressperson voted.
Here is how congress voted in 2024 on the same issue.
A version with a warrant requirement cannot be passed because the speaker won’t bring it to the floor (as I understand).
Despite the authorization expiring Friday, spying continues uninterrupted for 1 year until March 2027 because of a provision. It is highly deceptive that those in favor of FISA are fearmongering and not mentioning this.
This is a good article explaining this 1 year clause part of the situation.

The fact that there is such a big fight about simply adding a warrant requirement for searches involving U.S. persons demonstrates that this bill is misused against Americans to violate their constitutional rights. The purpose of FISA is for foreign spying, and yet the big fight is about keeping it that way?
