Got our kid an LTE apple watch se 3. Screen time works good. They can message me or my wife anytime, but nobody else.
My question is, since I’m on GOS, is the only option sms between us? Signal doesn’t have an apple watch app, does it? Nice that they can call me, but I would prefer secure text messages. They have Simplex on their ipad but they don’t have that with them often and it doesn’t have LTE.
Assuming this is a watch without a phone, there might be other options, but you could probably use OpenBubbles or BlueBubbles to use iMessage. IMO they’re both a bit janky and sketchy though. Alternatively, you could use RCS now if you’re willing to install Google Messages.
And I’m assuming Google messages automatically stores in the cloud? Or can you turn that off?
I’m not positive either way since I don’t use Google Messages, but there’s probably a setting to disable cloud storage if it does. You’d need to trust that Google is honoring the setting though.
You’d probably need to do the same on the Apple Watch, since I think it can back up messages to iCloud as well.
WhatsApp has native client on WatchOS, but it’s Meta app…
