I want to port my current phone number to VOIP but I don’t want to use Google. What are the best options? Thanks.
Have you seen jmp.chat?
I’ll check it out. Thanks.
What device are you on? I love JMP.chat, but I’m on iOS for now and am waiting for Cheogram app to come out of alpha/beta. MySudo works well, but I haven’t switched to it full time.
If you’re on GrapheneOS, 100% recommend JMP.chat. It’s awesome if you’re reasonably tech saavy for the setup.
I’m also a very happy JMP.chat user waiting for Cheogram’s iOS release. I decided to check out the beta/alpha via TestFlight, but it seemed way too early in development for my needs. In case you weren’t aware, you can use app.cheogram.com as a web app; although it’s a bit clunky it’s fully functional. I’m using Monal these days while I wait for Cheogram; it’s a very well designed app, but a big drawback is the lack of keypad during calls. What do you use on iOS these days while waiting for Cheogram?
Honestly it can’t come soon enough! I’ve tried the alpha, but it’s pretty non-functional unless you have an Android hanging around. I didn’t know about the web client! I always used Monal on the web, but I like this web client.
I’m using a combo of US Mobile and Google Voice at the moment, though I’ve given up waiting and will switch to MySudo until Cheogram reaches release on iOS. Mainly for my aux numbers (like for spam, shopping, etc.). I don’t think I’ll move my regular number over because group chat support seems to be lacking, though I haven’t verified yet (waiting on my GV number to get ported into MySudo). Have you used any other clients on iOS or another solution?
I’m mainly itching to get away from Google Voice so I can ditch my Google account. The plan is, once Cheogram goes release, to have an unused number (that I have parked at US Mobile) for data and emergency calls only, use Signal/iMessage with Apple ID for everything as possible, with a spam number for verifications (either left on MySudo or on JMP.chat as a second line) and my burnt old number on JMP.chat as a public number fallback and slowly ween off of that.
I have tried Monal and Snikket on iOS, but Snikket was too problematic for me (sometimes the first time a number messaged me, it would not appear in my chats, which is a complete dealbreaker). And as I mentioned, Monal doesn’t have keypad during calls, which can be a big issue, as I often use my JMP number to reach services that require me to press a number on the keypad to reach a certain department. https://app.cheogram.com is fully functional and has none of the issues I mentioned above, but not “pretty” so I have both Monal and the Cheogram web app on my iOS phone right now.
