"Good" Google search results in the bin?

There go your good Google search results…

Interesting to hear that they proudly admit that the World Economic Forum collaborates with Google to distort search results and they own the science.

I did not use Google anymore, but for others the tip can be… By Google search, hello other Search Engines.

The question which raises, is:
Other Searchengines like Startpage are based on Google input, are they also show the “wrong” order of good searchresults?

I don’t see how this is a problem, IF done responsible. Google has to curate the search results at some level, otherwise it would probably be far less usable.

The problem, in my opinion, is that they start to sell the top positions to advertisers.
But that’s just regular business practice.

Most alternative search services are based on Bing and its API, and their TOS doesn’t allow alternative services to combine them with results from another index. From memory, it’s a similar deal with Google.

Do not:

  • Display data received from the Search APIs on the same page as content from any general web search engine, large language models or advertising network.

  • Reorder, including by omission, the results displayed in an answer when an order or ranking is provided, unless required by law or agreed to by Microsoft.

Note

This requirement does not apply to reordering implemented through the portal for the Bing Custom Search API.

However, some services (like Qwant and Kagi) have been able to negotiate special terms that allow them to combine results from their own indexes to create novel results.

I’m a little unclear whether Bing or Google let you re-order the results normally, though…
