If I put my Bitcoins in an anonymous wallet and use mixing services, is it different, even if I still use Bitcoin, since they are not completely anonymous? If it is better, can you recommend some good anonymous wallets and mixing services? Also, how can I transfer my Bitcoins from Coinbase to an anonymous wallet? Maybe a YouTube tutorial? My threat model is the government. Thanks!
I’m not sure which mixing services are good. Samourai and Tornado Cash were shut down by the “authorities”. Not sure what else is there.
Another option would be to swap to Monero (which is another crypto similar to Bitcoin but transactions are untraceable). Then you can either pay in Monero or swap back to Bitcoin. This can be done through a central but non-KYC exchange (see trocador.app) or a decentralised peer-to-peer exchange like Haveno.
Maybe it’s strange for naive normies outside of this forum, but people here understand that you need to have the government as a threat model, so…
I think there is a fork of Samourai named Ashigaru. But I know nothing about it.
Yeah. Their clearnet site is down, but their hidden service was up last I checked. Whirlpool, which is what Samourai called their collaborative mixing tool has not been forked, or at least not launched publicly yet, but it has paynyms (BIP-47).
Actually there is a forum that had a lot of discussions & experienced users who are doing this stuff. But I’m afraid that you’ll going too far.
The only way to use bitcoin anonymously is to use monero . Believe me you will get crazy trying to make your bitcoin anonymous and still would not achieve desired anonymity. Whereas monero provides privacy by default with less overhead and setup required. You just withdraw monero from exchange to a self custody wallet and you are good to go. Any transactions made from this wallet are private and anonymous.
Use Monero, Bitcoin will never be private even if half baked attempts were done like mixing etc.
Just use the right tool for the job, it’s Monero, by the way.
