Elon Musk’s X blocks links to Signal, the encrypted messaging service

And we all know a not-insignificant bunch of cybersec and privacy people are gonna still stick it out on that husk of a platform despite yet another massive red flag that it is not a safe platform for them :sob:

I must say, from the outside it’s rather fascinating watching the US seemingly self-implode like this. Horrifying and worrying, but… fascinating.

X is a free speech haven :joy:

Another reason to use Bluesky or Mastodon

A significant number of journalists post their Signal tiplines on their X Profile bio too…

I hope this can be attributed to a simple mistake and not a malicious act. Otherwise, these folks might need to find another way of publicizing their contact information

X has been shadowbanning posts with any link for a long time. I guess people will just use find ways to not make it a link.

I’m surprised privacy/infosec people still use X as much as I see them doing. I stopped using that platform way back before covid

Twitter used to be the mecca for the infosec community. The number one “professional” advice I received was to go on Twitter lol

The article contains screenshots of direct messages where signal.me links are blocked as opposed to public posts. Links to the canonical Signal homepage still appear to be working for now.

You wouldn’t want to mention Linux on Facebook, either…

Maybe I’m missing out on lots of good advice but I don’t think being in X/Twitter for career advice is worth my mental health

No surprises here. Musk has been spreading false information about Signal and promoting the insecure and far less private Telegram over it.

Twitter is a plague, like Facebook. Best to cut it off entirely and let it rot.

(EDIT: @KevPham If you want to use a Twitter replacement for the infosec community, this Mastodon instance might be good)

Pretty sure elon did the exact opposite here, it’s just weird.
(Disclaimer: I don’t support Elon but still gotta be fair where it is possible)

As a national security professional I am horrified by what’s going on.

As a private citizen, voter, and donor that desperately wanted a different electoral outcome than what we got; I’m enjoying the leopards eating the faces of the idiots who voted for the face eating leopards. I have a colleague who likes wearing red hats that’s now facing getting fired as he’s still on probational status. Welp, ya played yourself dumbass.

And nobody is surprised

Regardless, the trust had been broken long ago. Anyone who is still there shouldn’t wait for basic features to be shut off again.

He kinda changed his memo recently (2023 or 2024ish I think) and started promotijg Telegram instead

ahh I see, yeah I guess I don’t keep up with that shitty platform so yeah.
