Is element call a from-sratch VoIP communication or is it just based off jitsi?
From the amount of times I’ve seen versions like Nextcloud Talk, like Brave Talk, they’re all just jitsi based so did we make a breakthrough with this or is it just another jitsi frontend
Edit: no nvm it’s the mRTC (Matrix RTC) one, a different protocol than say Jitsi, finally something that isn’t just modified jitsi
Not sure. I have yet to look into this further to learn more.
The company that founded Matrix was originally part of the VoIP/SIP engineering side of Amdocs way back in the early 2010s. Since Riot, which was the Matrix app before Element, they had native one-to-one WebRTC-based calls while Jitsi was handling voice and video conferencing. I think native voice/video conferencing was always in the long term plan.
