Personally, I’m in favor of stripping down my phone to use a customized and minimalist launcher. Never understood the whole premium dumb brick phone trend lately.
Would you ever get something like the Punkt?

No because whatever manufacturer makes it is going to be objectively worse security and usability wise than a smartphone. You already have options to simplify and reduce the amount of apps, just use that.
Those options are always a click away from disabling. I guess that’s the appeal of hardware that is less appealing to use.
i think the minimalism ignores one of the reasons some people want a flip phone: nostalgia for the design trends of the time
sure, a big part of it is wanting to spend less time on your phone & being fed up with the amount of spyware on smartphones
but a lot of these same people are also fed up with “corporate minimalism” when it comes to design
so i don’t see these catching on but who knows

I agree in principal but I want privacy and open source communities to push towards creating modular open alternatives like the phonebloks design that was proposed by One Army crew (the design Google said they were gonna run with under project Ara but then randomly dropped.
Doing this would enable transparent vetting and focus on parts of the phone and of course make sustainability and repair easier.
I know it sounds dreaming but we need to do that to get traction towards something between big tech and retro pandering tech
