DuckDuckGo is officially blocked in Indonesia

I don’t know if it’s appropriate to post here so apologies in advance, if not then just delete.

I saw a reddit discussion (here and here) about ddg being blocked by Indonesian government and ddg staff have confirmed it. It’s difficult to find English news sources to discuss this, local media confirmed it. It’s unfortunate to see this especially since DDG was recommended by PG itself. At this point, people resort to utilising a VPN/Tor etc or looking for search engine alternatives.

This country little bit closer to Chinese and Russian style censorship tbh and no one is talking about this issue.

I wonder what kind of stuff they wanted to gone from the search results

I can personally confirm that DDG is indeed blocked, it’s currently still easy to bypass the block as any half-tech-literate Indonesian uses encrypted DNS(this one still works)/VPN(sadly this includes opera VPN)/cloudflare WARP. Ironic that Bing isn’t blocked though

I’ve personally did a bit of research on how to lodge a false positive complain, but it seems like you are unable to do it unless you’re the website owner, and it requires a decent bit of personal data, honestly the country’s government is just retarded.

Btw reddit has been banned in Indonesia for years already, Steam and Paypal was blocked for quite a while ~last year. And currently they’re trying to block encrypted DNS Indonesian Focus Group discusses filtering mechanisms · Issue #316 · net4people/bbs · GitHub & Secure DNS (DoH/DoT) blocking in Indonesia 2023-12-30 · Issue #319 · net4people/bbs · GitHub

This is bad news. I’m upvoting for getting visibility about the current situation in Indonesia and hope the political regime changes and those censorship go with it. I was even planning visiting the country some day but for things like this I give up visiting some places. :pensive:
