I hope posting DivestOS specific questions on this forum is not out of line. It seems their communities on Reddit and Matrix are no longer existent and I see their main dev is active here.

  1. In the OS Updater, there are some settings “Server Choice” where an Onion server can be selected and “Perform requests over Tor”. Does the updater make its own tor connection or are these settings reliant on Orbot being installed?
    (1b. Would “Perform requests over Tor” simply not work if Orbot was not installed?)

  2. I have time sync issues. The phone won’t sync up time with the time server. I have to manually sync up the time every now and then when I notice time is off by more than a minute. How to diagnose this? I run Orbot in VPN mode (with always-on killswitch) on my main profile. I have a work profile that runs without a VPN. I don’t know which other settings I might have changed that could affect this.

  1. it doesn’t let you turn it on if Orbot isn’t installed stating to install Orbot
  2. are you blocking android.pool.ntp.org?

I don’t think so. For sure not intentionally. As I mentioned I just have Orbot installed on my main profile in VPN mode with the killswitch. I have no DNS filtering apps installed. Really just Orbot and a few appstores like F-Droid and Accrescent.
Unless Orbot breaks timesync I really don’t know what I could have done to block the timeserver.

do you also have no SIM inserted and airplane mode enabled? I think there is an edgecase where it indeed can’t get time automatically

since NTP is UDP and Tor doesn’t support UDP

That’s right! I guess that solves it. Unless I use Orbot in proxy mode I won’t be able to get timesync will I…
