DivestOS, a recommended OS here, is still on Android 13. The last commit for Android 14 (or 21) was in July, which was a formatting change in a license URL. The rest were attempts at getting to boot/compile. It could very well be developed in a local repo and will get pushed when it’s done, but I have a feeling by the time that gets released Android 15 will already be out.
This is a problem as the driver binaries won’t get the latest updates. However the risk is relatively low and even lower with the deblobber, but it still is a concern.
Our criteria does say that the OS needs major android updates within 0-1 months. However, I don’t think we should stick to our criteria that dogmatically. I’m working on a post about that.
I would say firmly that 21 would not be any safer than 20 is now, except that it is a14 instead of a13.
Tavi just has to be careful that a15 doesn’t catch up with him…
he offers a lot of (ancient) versions for a lot of devices, all of which he maintains. And that’s a lot of work.
and new Android versions (QPR2, etc…) don’t make it any easier for him
