Cryptomator, one of the best encryption tools out there, is turning 10 this year. I have used Cryptomator for years and it has never let me down.
I don’t need too much cloud storage and google’s free 15 GB is kind of enough for me. But the privacy concerns are always there. However, using Cryptomator before uploading my data to Drive gives me peace of mind.
If you have not tried it yet, definitely do give it a spin. It’s totally worth it: https://cryptomator.org/
It would be great if android version will have free “lite” version to accept only local encrypted files.
Because now i have to download my files and re-encrypt with pico-crypt to share with my friends for example. I am ok to purchase (anyways i use mostly Linux pc, not phone), but people i need to share files refuse to do so just to have r/w (collaborative editing) of my files.
And no, i cannot raise my hand to pirate foss tool. I am ok to do so with corporations, but i respect devs of foss tools. We already have not so many FOSS…
I’m really happy to see that Cryptomator is still evolving even as it marks its 10th anniversary.
I’d love to see them support third-party app stores outside of the App Store, maybe like AltStore PAL.
If that happens, we could break free from our reliance on the App Store and purchase licenses anonymously through the Cryptomator official website or ProxySto.re, just like with the current Android version.
This became possible in my region just recently after the EU, so I’m keeping a close eye on it.
This is not really a proper solution as very few (only the devs mostly) will know how to do it so this should not really be an expectation from anyone in general.
Well I won’t complain about that. Building software costs money. I actually appreciate the devs who give you one time licenses instead of trapping you in the subscriptions. Believe me once you start using the app, you will get way more value out of it compared to what you spend. I bought a license almost 6 years ago and I still heavily rely on this application.
Yeah. That’s very respectful. Plus code is free, so there is nothing that stop you from modifications (but i wish not, since we need to support foss devs)
No need to compile it yourself: it’s available for free on f-droid and accrescent. I think that’s a great business model, charge for it on google play and make it free elsewhere.
