CoMaps (FOSS Navigation, Organic Maps fork)

They did not not take a unilateral decision, they are following French law:

Since January 2012 (decree n°2012-3), Article R.413-15 of the Code de la route prohibits the possession, transport, and use of any device — hardware or software — that informs the driver in real time of the exact location of a fixed or mobile speed camera or police check. This explicitly covers apps built into satnavs or smartphones.

Organic Maps, Osmand, Magic Earth and Vela Maps all offer speed camera alerts, but CoMaps doesn’t – go figure.

If speed camera alerts are a top priority for you, then use one of the alternative options. It essentially doesn’t matter to me at all, and CoMaps has other functionality that is meaningful to me that other FOSS options don’t have. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. That’s why there are options.

I agree with what you’re saying, but now I’d like to know why people are insisting on replacing CoMaps with Organic Maps in the Privacy Guide?

Some people do want to also remove Organic Maps, but this thread is only about adding CoMaps.

This thread is simply to add CoMaps. If approved, both CoMaps and Organic Maps would be recommended.

Also, to clarify, the iOS version has the option to enable speed camera warnings, as shown in the screen shot @Valynor posted above. The version for Android also has the ability to enable the warnings, it’s just slightly harder to find — it’s located under the “Voice Instructions” menu.
