Cannot bring Apple concerns on PG?

Deeply disturbing the thread on Apple using Israeli tech was deleted by PG. Who’s watching the watchers?

We must always challenge ourselves and others to defeat the apathy of confirmation bias.

Google was once “Do No Evil”

We do everyone a disservice if we blindly ignore how we got here, and blindly give any company a free pass just because they are popular with some users.

It wasn’t deleted, just locked & delisted for being off-topic

is it already time for another cycle of blame the mods? Somewhere out there @kissu must be smiling

A company using Israeli tech for its communication chips is off-topic in a privacy guides forum?

Yikes.

Locked and delisted, what a fantastic way of deleting without deleting.

Sad show indeed.

I think the lock was appropriate. Privacy Guides should focus on verifiable privacy and security issues, not supply chain geography that has no bearing on whether the software actually protects users.

We should challenge confirmation bias on all sides. Including your own. There’s a line between holding companies accountable for actual privacy harms versus speculating about technology origins that don’t affect functionality or security outcomes. When we start connecting dots without evidence, that’s just working off assumptions and conspiracies.

Fair enough, since Apple is close sourced, we can just… oh, wait…

I think people complain about Apple literally all the time here so I don’t think it goes ignored lol

I’m grateful for the mods. My experience of the forum recently has been it’s quite high quality and active.

I read the article, and it doesn’t say anything about this being a surveillance issue. In fact, the article was literally on JPost (an Israeli news source) and was framed as a standard “Apple chose a local firm” type of engineering story.

It’s literally just about Apple’s own in-house silicon teams working with their engineers in Israel to build the C1X cellular modem and N1 wireless chip so they don’t have to rely on external suppliers like Qualcomm.

The point is, even with your post here right now, you’ve completely reframed and editorialized standard hardware manufacturing as a privacy issue. I guess next you’ll tell me my SodaStream is spying on me because it was also created by an Israeli company.

Reminded me of this

and for the record I don’t have a SodaStream… i don’t really like my water carbonated.

You are doing it wrong! You gotta carbonate milk!
