Do I need to regularly open Brave on my phone to keep sync database up to date or it’s always up to date as long as only one browser is active ?
I feel like it’s p2p unlike Firefox’s centralized approach (more reliable imo)

If you sync history you have to regularly open Brave on all devices on the sync chain because after a certain time (about 2 weeks for me) it doesn’t sync properly anymore and you have to make a new sync chain. :-/
If you don’t sync history it should work fine for months without syncing.
It only updates when you actively open the browser.
I use it to sync my bookmarks since i use Brave on desktop and it has e2ee , might switch to floccus or a better foss e2ee alternative soon
Just bookmarks should be fine. The problems with the sync chain arise when you store too much data (=your history) in the chain and then try to sync that.
I’ve been using Brave since after they launched and had Linux packages. I’ve never had to restart my sync chain. Same code since.
