Brave needs a setting to stop middle clicking from closing tabs

Middle clicking immediately closes tabs in Brave, and right now there isn’t a setting to turn this off. This is a problem for laptop users who use their touchpads. I just accidentally closed a tab that had a crisis hotline conversation open, which was the last straw for me. I submitted a feature request to the GitHub to address this. Please help me by submitting more, because this is unacceptable.

Edit: I’m not saying the default should be changed. I’m saying Brave, and all browsers really, desperately need an option to turn this off for users who don’t like it.

Please clarify, what OS are you on? And how are you middle clicking on the touch pad?

I mean, this is how middle clicking has always worked in every browser? Maybe you should adjust your trackpad settings in your OS to avoid accidental clicks.

Middle click does this in most browsers/operating systems, but AFAIK Firefox does not have this functionality enabled by default on Windows.

EDIT: I was wrong middle click does in fact close browser tabs in Firefox on Windows by default. I was thinking of middle click paste.

I looked in settings, and I don’t see an option to do that

Also, “This thing is normal, therefore not bad.”

I use middle click all the time to do this intentionally so… yeah, kinda.

It’s great that you find it useful, but people who find it infuriating for the reason given above should still have an option to turn it off.

Middle clicking a tab to close it is indeed standard behaviour in most (all?) browsers and has been for many years. Brave won’t change that, even if you manage to get just the right person on the line.

The solution is to configure your touchpad/OS differently and if that’s not possible to get used to and live with it.

Don’t forget, this is Brave, not Vivaldi!

(But yeah, it doesn’t seem possible even in Vivaldi!)
