Best URL shortener for each platform?

What are the best FOSS URL shorter for each platform?

Is this something that needs to be per platform? URL shorteners typically get used though a browser and run on a remote server.

They must be looking for an app, but generally speaking apps are less secure than simply using a website soooo :man_shrugging:t3:

what are some good privacy-friendly no bullshit websites?

It can’t be FOSS by design, url shortener must rely on a website.

Relying on remote server opens up more possibility for tracking and makes me dependent on some server beeing online.

How are apps less secure?
If I download an app, I can be assured that the same code is running every time I start it, not like with websites that could always change how their backend behaves without telling me

Then it sounds like you want a bookmark manager rather than a URL shortener. A “URL shortener,” to me at least, means you can generate a short URL that anyone can use to get to the original site; no different from sharing the real URL, aside from being shorter and requesting an extra server. https://tnyr.me/#3mMdjT8raY for example.

Why “by design” ?
At least on Android, there is an app that work completely offline and its FOSS.

I want an app that takes a URL, and removes everything that is not necessary to point to the target

That would be a cleaner, not a shortener.

Just use each service’s built-in one if they have it. Usually if there’s some kind of share button they’ll have a first party URL shortener.

PikaPods added Shlink recently. If you own a short url already, could be a good combo.

URLCheck is what I use on Android and it works flawlessly. It is also more customisable than Léon and offers an option to scan any link with VirusTotal (although you do need an API key for this).
