I use OpenTracks but I also never used Strava before so don’t know how they compare.

IDK if there is one. I have been so reluctant to use Strava that I have just started using first party app for my smartwatch or iOS.

Not an open source app, Komoot is nice alternative and it seem to be GDPR compliant.

According to what I have read, they haven’t improved their default privacy/security settings even after multiple events of tracking users movements.

Strava is the social media for fitness enthusiasts. You can hide your activities to “only you” but its currently not possible to avoid aggregated tracking.
