I use an old Garmin Instinct 2. Garmin seems like the best option if you’re interested in wearables. They get a “thumbs up” on Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included, though people voted on there on average as “a little creepy”.
Garmin’s settings are notoriously granular and they give you options, as the website says, as to what you share (some at the expense of some features).
Strava is insane, though. And I strongly dislike how ubiquitous it’s become in the social fitness space.
I’m ok with Garmin, for now. I may not get another wearable when mine dies and just go back to an Ironman and a notebook, heh heh.
I think Garmin makes most of its money through device sales, not as much through services. So that’s a plus but of course things can change.
In terms of quality it was a nice upgrade from Fitbit so happy to stay with Garmin for now.
Yeah that makes sense. I also noticed they started doing Connect+ or something like that, a subscription based something for something new. I’m just hoping Garmin doesn’t start to pivot more into more subscription services and paywalling features…
It’s a nice ecosystem, though, and you’re right the quality is nice (though I’m jealous of some of the FitBit prices ngl).
A bit of a different beast but I can recommend those: https://repebble.com/
Yeah. Initial reviews have not been very positive. I have zero use for it right now.
Hold up now don’t tempt me! I love the Pebbles…it’s on my list for sure.
