Any privacy benefit to Google account getting moved to EU

I got this email a while back saying my Google account country association is being moved to the Netherlands and my data will now be the responsibility of Google Ireland. I’ve been using a VPN with a server in the Netherlands for a while now, so that’s probably why this happened.

Are there any privacy benefits of having an EU-based Google account?

I know there’s GDPR, but are there any practical benefits since I don’t actually live in the EU?

Yes, GDPR allows you to disable most of the tracking. It is in the Google Account settings, and is very easy to change (unlike Microsoft).
