I’m back again with yet another Brave Mobile bug that I figured should be a PSA, given the potential severity of it to targeted groups. I am constantly disappointed by what a buggy mess their mobile browser is, on both iOS and Android. The last issue was auto “shred” on iOS not always working when a site tab was closed. Now that “shredding” has come to Android (I know it was there before, but they have updated the name and UI to match that of iOS), it is also struggling from the same issue.
I went into my site settings, and lo and behold, there were cookies from just about every site I’ve ever randomly visited stored in there. Sites from months ago. So I used the delete browsing history option, making sure that cookies was checked. It seemed to go through a process, and when it finished, I checked site settings again, and all the cookies were still there.
I tested this on a GOS phone, a Samsung phone, and again on the iPhone. On each of these, browsing data failed to be deleted. I can manually delete these cookies, one by one, but there are thousands.
I am not a targeted individual. I just hate mass data harvesting. But I figured I’d share this for those who REALLY need cookies to be gone from their phone. I have no idea what the Brave Mobile teams are doing, but this is the fourth privacy breaking issue I’ve found, and for non-privacy related issues, I’m up at the second or third, with promises from their team on most of them that they would be fixed months (or sometimes years) ago. They have not.
