Further to UK’s first permanent facial recognition cameras installed, Police Scotland is also “consulting” public on implementing Live Facial Recognition.
Interestingly, in their survey, they emphasized
Severe Crime Against Females
During specific timeframes, in populated areas where analysis has highlighted heightened threat, where perpetrators target females and there is a risk of sexual or violent altercations.
Indoor Events
Deployment of LFR at indoor events where large numbers are expected to identify known individuals who pose a risk to public safety, potential acts of terrorism, or those subject to bail conditions or restriction orders preventing their attendance at the event (e.g. Registered Sexual Offenders, Counter Terrorism watchlists, etc.)
More Interestingly, they decided to ask
- If you were a victim or witness of a crime
- your gender/ gender identity
- Age group
- sexual orientation
- mental health issues
- ethic groups
- religion
- Caring responsibilities
While there is no evidence saying they would “weigh” or “portrait” each survey response based on the above details, I have no idea how the above details could be remotely meaningful for an objective assessment on this subject. I am struggling to understand the purpose of asking all these personal details.
Anyway, if anyone lives in Scotland, it is time to voice your view.
