A very beginner friendly distro upgrade just dropped. For those on the edge to try something new since Windows 10 is losing support, this is a great one to try. Give it a try even if you’re distro hopping. There’s a lot to love about it.
Yeah Zorin sits on one of my beginner friendly recommendations next to distros like Bazzite, Linux Mint, Fedora Atomic etc.
I switched to Zorin from Windows about two days ago. It’s really smooth and the design is great, I love it. However, I have issues with my Nvidia GPU. It sometimes won’t boot into Zorin.
NVIDIA and Linux don’t mix well sometimes. Hope you can resolve the issue and it doesn’t make you move away from Linux.
Good instructional video for those looking to take the plunge:
They also list software alternatives for former Windows users as well
zorin looks great on paper, but as a few months ago, it wasn’t as well tested/polished as Linux Mint. Below my mini-review.
Notes for Zorin OS:
+:
They ask you on boot whether you just want to try or want to install
Great font
-:
The odd thing that Gnome File manager does when you want to name your file fore save, it searches instead, forces you to use mouse to fix.
No explanation for why a password is needed on Brave boot (keyring)
Long refreshes on the software manager in search
~Weather App only has cities for USA- this could be because my keyboard layout is QWERTY~ It appears it now have cities in country I live, but US cities still appear first
Gimp or another image editor not pre-installed
still gimp 2.10 in their repo
Adobe trough compat layer didn’t work, as expected. IMO, they should recommend alternatives instead because Windows program installer never work in my experience,
