I need to use their slopmail service for enterprise reasons, and so I had it set up so that Outlook would automatically forward emails to my personal ProtonMail account. This way, I would get notifications, without having the app installed.
Worked for a few months and then all of a sudden stopped. I found out not only had it stopped forwarding the emails, but it had also been doxxing my personal email to the sender.
The sender got an automated reply saying something like “We can’t send this email to not-wittingly@protonmail.com blah blah blah”. Very disappointing, very annoying. Perhaps this is how the email protocol simply works and this would be the case with any service? Not sure. Outrageous either way. Needless to say, I have now set it up so that it forwards to an alias instead, so it can’t dox me again in the future.
