Would You Pay $60 For A Browser? (ft. Firewalls Don't Stop Dragons)

Sorry but me too, I don’t understand what it mean to have 10 activations.

Let say I have a laptop, I reinstall another OS. Does it count as 1 activation ?

It means you can download or enable Brave origin 10 times in total. How to unauthorize and reauthorize the activation is what I am unsure of though.

I quite enjoy the idea of an upcoming event.

Already installed Origins on my M4 Mac Mini and smooth sailing so far….and best of all, great on resources.

Could you share 1 or 2 screenshots with us without revealing any private information? For example: the home screen and settings.

The UI hasn’t changed, it’s just stripped down and no longer has Brave Rewards, Wallet, VPN, and other “fluff”…

It looks great at first glance, but the idea of paying that much just to not have those features is way over the top. Plus, I’m not even convinced by Brave’s data synchronization method. It’s fast and performs well, sure, but for me, a donation-based system would have been better than the fixed payment model they have now.

Not everyone can afford that amount, but some could help out with even a small donation of $5 to $10…

it is free i am using it for almost 4days now

Brave Origin is only free on Linux, users on all other platforms will need to purchase a lifetime license, or subscribe when that becomes an option.

i am using fedora

Fedora is good choice, not that my opinion matters there anyway .

I just wanted to make it clear that Brave Origin, while free on Linux, is paid on most other platforms.

As your statement:

Could easily be misconstrued as implying that it is free on platforms such as Windows, iOS, or Android, which it currently is not, and since the discussion around Brave Origin has been very disjointed such unclarified, absolute statements could easily lead to confusion.

How about 60 USD for adding more bloat to regular brave instead

It’s the ol’ create the problem and offer payment options to resolve it.

You have got to make money somehow too so there’s that.

Maybe there will be an unbloated version of Brave Origin in the future, once that ends up bloating too.

This stuff isn’t a problem though. I can’t tell you how many features exist in apps I use every single day that I don’t use, don’t care about, and barely even notice. That’s true for pretty much everyone. And normally, nobody treats that as some huge issue.

To me, extra features only become a real issue when they get in the way, slow things down, or make the core experience worse. But if they’re just there and people can ignore them, I don’t see why that should be treated like some major problem.

And in the case of brave, once you spend a minute or so switching the stuff off, you forget it it’s even there. And there’s no performance hit with it whatsoever by it being in there.

But for some reason, there’s this very vocal group of people who only want a browser to be a browser and nothing else, and Brave has decided to rightfully capitalize on that monetize them.

Why would Brave Origin bloat? It would defeat the purpose for what it is. You don’t trust Brave?

It was meant in more of a tongue in cheek way, but you never know what the future holds

I’m inclined to trust Brave here to not enshittify Brave Origin. It would not make any sense even from a business perspective and would become a laughing stock if they fucked with it later.

for windows even after paying 150 $ you are still getting bloat tracking privacy hamper and what not edge annoyance.
i think brave did the right thing if you don’t want to pay use linux and if not want a good thing pay 60,
and it will be used for development
though i am using it for free i will pay once it is stable, it is a onetime.
