Will you suggest using VPN for live streamers?

Let say Billy wants to be a live streamer on twitch or YouTube, but remaining his privacy as possible while still able to have great streaming performance. Will you suggest Billy using VPN for live stream?

Well it can’t hurt, but I’m not sure it would help either. It depends on Billy’s threat model, is Billy mostly concerned with staying private with respect to his/her viewers or private from the streaming service itself?

If the former, I would assume whatever service Billy streams on would be preventing viewers from seeing a true IP or anything like that, so I’m not sure if a VPN would have value. If Billy cares more about privacy from the service itself, this is a much harder problem, a VPN would help in this scenario but it wouldn’t be a magic bullet Billy would need to take other steps and develop good habits.

Mind expanding further here? :hugs:

There isn’t much that I can expand on. The point I was making is just that using a VPN in this context would protect one identifier–your IP address. But that there are various other vectors and bits of PII that are out of scope for a VPN that you’d need to protect in other ways.

Yes definitely, a VPN won’t protect you if you project your passport on the wall. :3
Some common sense is also to be had + soft skills where you don’t need to talk about how much your love this unique homemade cookie store.

I’m mostly asking because I posted a question on that topic, feel free to maybe give me some opinions if you have some time available. :folded_hands:t2:
