Will my private emails be marked as spam? How can I know? How to prevent?

I must send a series of important private emails and am setting up a new account for the purpose. But I am concerned that the use of private email providers will increase the likelihood of Gmail/Outlook marking my email as spam. Is this true?

What is your experience with private email providers and having your messages marked as spam? Have you experienced it or not, and with what provider?

If the email is marked as spam is it possible for the sender to know about this? The only solution I can find is the use of “read receipts” but I have never received an email asking for one of these before, and I would not know about these if I was not in this situation. I can imagine myself in the past receiving a read receipt for the first time, suspecting it is a spam because I did not know read receipts were such a thing, and sending to the spam folder. Alternatively, if I did not want to respond to the email, I would not want to tell the sender that I read it.

Also, I know it is sometimes possible for a receiving server to reject the mail entirely, meaning it does not arrive in the recipients spam folder. If this happens, will I be notified?

Lastly, is there anything I should and should not do when sending these emails? I know it is important to refer to the recipient by name, avoid links and unconventional text patterns. Does it matter if I send my email while using Tor or VPN? Does it matter if I use an email client?

Does it matter if I use Proton or its competitors? Should I use the companies domain, instead of a custom domain? It is important that I keep the email account for as long as possible, so I plan on using a custom domain with a cheap provider, unless I am advised otherwise?

Is there anything else I should know?

Regards,

No guarantee that your emails will or wont be marked as spam. It’s not just your email address, but your emails can be marked as spam due to its content. You just never know. Is there any reason you wouldn’t just use a private messenger instead?

The only way I can reach the people I want to reach is through email.

Don’t worry too much, spam false positives nowadays is very low, at least from smart systems like Gmail. For companies with strong anti-spam protections, idk. Maybe look on internet ? I would guess better not to send attached files.

So you have a super important email that can only come from a new email address to send to people who you dont know well enough to contact using something more reliable than email? Sounds fishy. No wonder you’re worried about it being marked as spam. But good luck!

There are a couple of websites that you can use to check an email’s spam score, e.g. https://www.mailgenius.com/ or https://www.mail-tester.com/
