They reference the comic in the article, hence why they even call it wrench attacks.

I’m curious if there are ways to prevent such attacks. Best I could think of is to store a private key with some law office (over seas) requiring you to show up in person with law enforcement, and the private key on-person has some dead man’s switch that erases it in some condition.

Maybe use some ideas from social recovery wallets?
Or maybe just stay anonymous and low-profile.

Its too much trouble. IIRC convenience is one of the major selling points of having cryptocurrency as an alternative to regular banking. At this point since you need positive identification to travel, might as well use a local bank?

Its way too much hassle…
