What are the privacy implications of using an alternative frontend that fetches content directly from the original service (rather than proxying it, like some Invidious instances do)? It will be while using a popular VPN. How does that compare to just using the original website with a content blocker like uBlock Origin? My experience has been that browser fingerprinting techniques can still track users easily even with content blockers enabled, so I’m wondering whether non-proxying frontends offer different protection.
