I have to scan my imei for something like bills long story short that scan is made using an app made by government so i am thinking of giving someone my imei to scan it using that app without needing to install it on my phone, So that person will know my imei, So is there any privacy/security danger it that person know it?
It gets sent to your carrier all the time anyway when you connect to their network, it’s an identifier that’s used constantly to identify your device. So I don’t really think there’s an issue. If the government really wants it they will get it easily.
Yeah I answered the same question with the same info on the Techlore forum.
This a bad assumption, with IMEI from cell towers, they don’t know much if phone was purchased anonymously and didn’t insert a KYCed SIM or any SIM at all (IMSI being sent along with IMEI).
To OP’s question, you can read what info is in the structure of the IMEI:
What cell towers can deduce from IMEI that is being frequently sent cell towers, is your location history.
